The High Commissioner in London cables under date 10th mat.:-— "The extent of the recent rapid increase in butter value, although only partially reflected in retail prices, has resulted in limitation of consuming demand, and buyers are therefore holding off. Supplies of English are more plentiful, and selling in country markets at from 1/2 to 1/4 per lb. The result is that prices are much easier and the tendency is downwards. New Zealand to-day is selling at ISO/ per owt. and the market is slow. Official quotations arc: New 'Zealand.—April S: 180/ to 188/ per owt (1/7] to 1/8} per lb): exceptional, 100/ per cwt (1/S.J per lb). April I: 188/ to 195/ per cwt (l/8i to 1/3 per lb). March 25: 176/ .to 180/ per ewt (l/(ij to 1/7J per Hi). DISPUTE HETWEEN "COMPANIES. NORTH AUCKLAND RESOLUTION. At a meeting of the executive committee cf the North Auckland Dairy Conference held in 'Whangarei yesterday the trouble over price cutting on the local birttcr market was fully considered, together with the published reports of the recent meeting of the South Auckland Dairy Association, and that body's circular letter to factories making allegations against the agents of the; Opotiki Dairy Association. The following resolution was unanimously passed: j "•That this meeting of representatives | of fix of the largest dairy factory com-j sanies of North Auckland has carefully 1 examined Mr. Aickin's statement sup- J ported by irrefutable evidence, and it j is the unanimous decision of this meet-* ing that he has* scrupulously, on behalf j of the Opotiki Dairy Association, observed all the rules of the Dominion i Butter Committee and of the Auckland Butter Distributors' Association. We liave also carefully considered the circular dated April 5 issued by the SoTlth Auckland Dairy and we lire surprised that it makes no protest against price cutting by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., which etill continues. We emphatically disagree with the South Auckland Dam' : Association's opinion that the action of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company is in the best interests of producers and with their statement that j the real question at ismie is whether) the producers or merchant* should be j the dominant factor on the Auckland butter market. I We consider the real question is whether other co-operativn dairy companies are to be dominated by the New i Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, ! and we oxpreae our readiness to give moral and material support to*the Opotiki Dairy Association, which is the jeubjei-i of the present unjustified attack."
