UNEMPLOYED SOLDIERS.

MANY NOW ABSORBED. BUT MOBE -JOBS NEEDLU. The matter of unemployed returned soldiers was again a theme for discussion at the meeting of the executive of the Auckland R.S.A. held last night. A reply to a query whether preliminary work might not immediately be com menced at Arapuni to relieve unemployment was answered by the Premier, who said the Public- Works" Department wa> not in a position to do this, but arrangements had been made to utilise the services of 100 extra men on road work.-. Reference was made to the fact that the City Council, the Harbour Board, and ot.liCT bodio- had mad? efforts to absorb the unemployed returned soldier-, and their effort.- had been quite successful. About si dozen men had been placed yesterday, and jobs had been obtained and numberof men absorbed in various places. A hundred men had been absorbed very recently in newly opened work-.
