BOXING.
UNIVERSITY EASTER BOUTS.
On Easter Monday night, in the Town Hall, the University students will hold their annual boxing championships. The championships arc held every Easter at one of the four University centres and in the past have proved wonderfully successful both in keenness of competition and also in the high standard of boxing displayed. This year's tournament promises to be even more successful than in the past, as full teams are entered from Ota«o, Christehurch, Wellington, and Auckland. The Wellington men are all well-known locally, and some of them hold the Wellington championships in their own classes. Their team includes Mc-Rae, who scales nearly 13.it, and who has a knock-out wallop; and also Lewis, lightweight, who was run:.er-up in the University championships last year. The fact that their trainer, the wellknown Tim Trac-ey, thinks very hignly of their chances, is significant. The Christehurch team is a good one and includes a heavy of class in Craven, who tips the scale at 13st and is 6it tall. Otago includes Kirkland (heavy) and Lamb (middle), iate of Whangarei, who is said to be the best middle m Otago. Auckland has a young team, the only well-known member being McLean, the Auckland amateur heavyweight champion. From these indications it will be seen that the .boxing should be high class, especially in the heavyweight division, which is anticipated to be close and exciting. It is thought by some that McLean will have to look to his laurels. As only the finals in the various 1 I classes will be held, the balance of the , j programme will be filled by special ! I bouts by local amateurs, who include Purdv. Australasian bantam champion, , Bob Keenan, who fought so well against { a stone heavier opponent off the Chat- ,. ham, and other well-known boxers.
