••THE SIGN OX THE DOOR." "The Sign on the Door"" was again favourably received at His Majesty , * Theatre last evening. The principal parts were excellently handled by Miss Maude Hanaford and Mr. William J. Kelly, while the supporting cas'v also acquitted itself well. The play will be repeated this evening and for the last time to-morrow evening. "DIXIELAND." - '•Dixieland"" has been '"ill the air" as it Aucklanders and visitors to Auckland alike has been timed to such :i pitch that the imaginary strains of a jazz band blends with the rhythm of swaying couples every time the new cabaret comes into their thoughts. Many have peeped through the heretofore enshrouded the mysteries of this new dancing place, but the views the carious ones have sained have necessarily been somewhat limited. Ens■Y an ssWtS Domfuion eS »n Thursday evening at His Majesty"* Theatre is hailed by the critics of the Sydney and Melbourne papers as one of the daintiest, prettiest and most winsome things of its class seen in thepa.t decade. The composer, Ldward German, one of Fncland's foremost musicians, is said to iwe every musical device In a manner which proclaims his real musicianship, and combines the beautiful q"?Utiee of the old madrigal composers with the demands of modern light opera In an amazing manner, and every phase is said to be melodious. The story includee such noted personages as Queen Elizabeth. Sir Walter Raleigh the Earl of Essex, and members of a Will Shakespeare's company. The scene is laid in the. heart of old hngland. by the Thames, near Windsor. The cast includes Clias. H. Workman, Ethel Morrison A Howett-Worster, C. Bettam, John Ralston. Patti Russell, Byrl Waikely, and the popular chorus and orchestra of the Gilbert and Sullivan Company. Other operas to be staged are -'The Chocolate Soldier" "Dorothy." "Mikado, "leomcn of the Guard." and "The Gondoliers." The box plans are open at Lewis R. Eady and Son for six evening performancee, and a matinee on Easter Monday of "Merrie England."'
