AUCKLAND V. TARANAKI. SAIN CAUSES ABANDONMENT OF TLAY. On Saturday on the Parnell courts an interlrovincial lawn tennis match was l layed jetween teams from New Plymouth, representing Taranaki. and a representative Aucfcand team. I'lay was not commenced until ifter 11 a.m.. on account of the heavy mornng dew. bui the courts considerably improved ibout noon, and permitted of good playing conditions until 4 o'clock, when heavy rain •aused play to be abandoned. Auckland at hat time had 11 games and Taranaki 4 james, with 4 games unfinished. In most of the games excellent tennis was ihown. the chief game in the men's singles -etween Robson (Auckland) and Wallace Taranaki) beli\g brilliant, and closely fought. Jobson winning o—7, 6—S. 7—5. Yesterday tne visiting players were the ■vests of the officers of the Auckland Ijiwu rennis Association, and were taken for a notor run to Titirangi. a number of the ilayers left by the Maid Trunk express last ivening. the remainder going to New Plynonth by the Rarawa rb-day. Tha play in the various games was as 'ollows:— LADIES - SINGLES. Mrs. Marshall (Auckland) beat Miss Smith Taranaki). 6-2. 6—l. Miss Knight (Auckland) beat Miss Simpson Taranaki), 6—2. 6—?r Miss M. Pavton (Auckland) beat Miss lundlc (Taranaki), 6—l, 3—6, 6—l. LADIES' DOUBLES. Miss McFarlane and Mrs. Marshall beat ilisses Brewster and Rundle (Taranaki). 1—3,. 6:-4. Misses Pavton and Knight (Auckland) beat Mrs. Smith and Miss Simpson (Taranaki), !—6. 6—4. MEN'S DOUBLES. Nicholson and Webster (Taranaki) beat sriffiths and Brin—en (Auckland), 7—5, 4—6, ' COMBINED DOUBLES. Wallace and Miss Rundle (Taranaki) beat E. M Griffiths and Miss Fayton (Auckland), 7—5. 6—2. H.
