DANGEROUS REMEDY.

HYPNOSIS IN SHELL-SHOCK. AN APPALLING SCENE. LONDON, April !1. A most distressing occurrence has lotlowed the visit to London of M. Couc, of Nancy. France, an authority on auto-' suggestion. Recently the visitor gave a remarkable scries of seauccs, at which he apparently effected a number of successful "cures." The outcome was that Lady Beatty, who has herself gained benefit from auto-suggestion, induced M. Cove to visit the Tooting Neurological Hospital, where shell-shocked soldiers are treated. A hundred patients attended his demonstration. At the end of half-an-hour a soldier suffering frorr> bodily tremors went up to the platform. M. Cove made passes, and suggested to the sufferer that his tremors were unreasonable. Suddenly the patient uttered a piercing shriek, his face and body became contorted, and he fell wntning upon the floor.

The effect of their comrade's frenzy upon the rest of the soldier patients was horrible. Man after man shrieked and flung himself upon the floor in uncontrollable hysteria. The doctors and sisters of the institution were unable to calm them, and Lady Beatty ran out of the hall in distress. M. Cove. abruptly closed the demonstration.—(A. and X.Z.)
