The Meat Boaxd further announced last night that if negotiations that the j board has now in hand are brought to ! a satisfactory conclusion it will mean that, provided sufficient quantities of beef are forthcoming, there will be a reduction in charges for freezing and freight of approximately 5/ per 1001b. It was stated, also, that the Prime Minister and Acting-Minister of Railways had advised the board that to assist beef producers at this crisis a reduction in railway rates on beef for export and live fat cattle sent to freezing works for slaughter, for export, would be made in the game proportion as the reduction which was secured from shipping and freezing companies.

Referring to the reductions of freight rates on beef, Mr. Massey stated that, in response to the requests of the Meat Control Board he and Mr. Guthrie (Minister of Railways) had agreed to reduce by 27i per cent the railway freigiit on cattle sent to freezing works, and on frozen beef sent to ships, provided a similar reduction is made by shipping companies, and provided also that freezing charges are reduced. To what extent he did not state. The Premier added that he believed ihis was due to Government action in connection with the meat pool proposals, and said that the action of himself and the Minister of Railways would undoubtedly receive the confirma- . tion of Cabinet when it next met.

RESUMPTION OF EXPORT. (By TelegTaph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Meat Producers' Export Board has had under consideration a communication from Armour and Co., Australasin, Ltd., in which that firm requests permission to trade in New Zealand, and also a further communication, received through the Minister of Agriculture, in which Armour and Co. express their willingness, if allowed to trade, to place themselves in the hands of the board, and do whatever the board desires in the matter of handling, pooling, shipping and marketing their meat. The matter was very fully discussed from all points of view. The members of the board afterwards had an interview with the Minister of Agriculture and submitted to him their considered oninion that, havin? regard to the powers of control now avai'able to the board, and the expressed wil'insrness of Armour and Co. to act entirely in accordance with the desires of the board, the company should now be allowed to commence trading under conditions to be laid down by the board. As a result Armour and Co. will be iriven permission under the control of the board, to commence business, the conditions to be imposed b«intr of such a nature as to ensure effective and thoroujrh control in the full interest? of the producers. ;
