H.M.A.S. AUSTRALIA.
THE DREW PAID OFF. (From Our Own Correspondeut.) SYDNEY, December 15. The battle-cruiser Australia has been placed on the reserve list. She was paid oil' a few days ago. and has taken up permanent moorings below Garden Island, whore she will remain indefinitely. The event is of more than ordinary interest to New Zealand. She was engaged in the Xew Guinea operations in ISII4, eecortins both New Zealand and Australian troops in their Island expeditions. After the battle of the Falkland [ Islands the Australia was ordered Home to join the (Jrand Fleet, and from January, 1915. till the end of the war she served in the North Sea. She missed the tattle of Jutland through collision with H.M.s. Xew Zealand, but wa s present at the surrender of the Grand Fltet in November, 1018. For several months before and after the armistice she flew Admiral Sir Lionel Halsey'a flag. The crew of 450 have been signed off. and 200 of these men on loan from the Imperial Navy sailed by the Osterley for London.
