CANADA'S -MERCANTILE MARINE. Thirty years ago the Canadian-Pacific sent out its first sailing ship, the W. B. Flint, to trade from Port Moody near Vancouver, to Yokohama, Japan. That was ten days before the trans-continental route was opened. The W.B. Flint was a ship of 800 tons. To-day the gross mercantile marine tonnage on the Canadian register is , 1.553.000 tons. The total gross tonnage of all other British Dominions outside the United Kingdom is only 400.000 tons gross. More than half the wool produced in Canada now finds its way to mills in that ' Dominion.
