HOUSING LEGISLATION.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —To pass over your correspondent's quip at my cognomen, which but reveals Mr. Hannan's humour —or tiic lack of it —I again had to smile at his irrelevancy. The very idea of branding that arch-Tory, to whom he reters, and myself as "Bolshies," is too incongruous for words. 1 trust the Right Honourable William Ferguson Massey will feel as proud as I myself do by being so tagged—and by a fellow-countryman and uo-religionist, too! I confeS3 I do not share Mr. J. H. Hannan's partiality for invective, while T must thank him for the really high honour he is conferring upon mc, but which I fear I but poorly deserve. As to his generous invitation to, mc. to but repeat his own mistake and invest in dwellings thai too often are such only in name, and on borrowed money at that, I hope I have too much horse-sense to accept. Did I not admit that the pendulum was now swinging in the other direction? And if it had really started before he himself had on his philanthropic career, it surely says little for his foresight or understanding of economics. In this latter respect perhaps the despised "Red Feds" might possibly have taught him ■wisdom. —I am, etc., A. WASTALL.
