A CALLOUS MAORI. (By Correspondents WARKWORTH, this day. In the Warkvrorth Police Court today, before Mr. E. A .Y. Burton, S.JI., Tiri Tcera (alia 3 Taylor), a Maori, wa» charged on the information of Police Constable Snow with having TH-treated an aged mare by overdriving her. He was charged, on a second count, with being drunk and disorderly. Accused pleaded guilty, and requested that a prohibition order be issued against Mffl" celt. Constable Snow *aid this was the worst case he had known in fifteen years. The Maori had galloped the horse until it fell exhausted, and when it could not rise he had kicked it. and finally left it lying on the road in a cutting. Had a trap come along an accident would certainly have occurred. He subsequently went back the following day, passed the horse stili down, and left :t there to die. The horse had one hoof torn completely off, and subsequently had to be destroyed, being terribly knocked about. He had attempted to take another roan'-s horse, and when the owner had objected he had shown flgat, and had broken p window.

Taylor was fined £5 with W costs, or one "month's imprisonment, on each charge, sentences to be cumulative.
