WATERFRONT LABOUR
NO CHANGE IN THE SYSTEM. (B.r Telegraph.— Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. As the agreement with waterside labour runs out noxt month, it was RUgjrested by Mr. Mitchell (Wellington South) that the Government should bring , in legislation for the general control of labour of this class. The Minister of Labour replied that during the recess he had investigated this question closely, and pained a eood deal of information, but the slump arrivpd and the matter was not rO urgent. He therefore decided that :ib there wan so much other legislation this session lie would defer legislation. The matter was, however, under tlit* Government's consideration, though there was no hope of dealing with it this session. He invited the questioner or any harbour board which had a scheme to suggest to bring it forward, adding that the boards could ao ahead with a scheme now if they wished.
