GOOD ROADS.
FIVE SOLID REASON'S. The Good Roads Association of New Zealand has issued a circular letter to members of Parliament containing its views on arterial roads, and pointing out the progress made in tills direction and several of the Australian States. Summed up, the circular states:—From a national standpoint improved arterial roads arc necessary. (1) For defence purposes, the Great War having proved their ability to convey men and material by. modern vehicles in quick time from place to place. (2) For postal purposes, to facilitate mail deliveries and economise costs of same. (3) For tourist purposes, to increase the tourist traffic by the additional attraction of good roads for traversing the country. (4) For transport purposes, in each case of the break down in railway transport from any cause, thereby minimising disorganisation of trade under such circumstances. (5) For encouraging trade and decreasing costs of transport between the different centres of population in the Dominion.
The Minister of Public Works has definitely promised to bring down the Main Highways BMI this session.
