SWIMMING.

WAITEMATA CLUB. OPENING OF SEASON. held by the \Vaitemata Amateur Shimming Club in the Tepid Baths last evening. There' was a large attendance that speaks well for the popularity of the club. and also of the interest likely to be taken in swiinmicg generally during the forthcoming season. ■An extensive programme had been dravrn up, and some fine swimming was witnessed. Among the chief items were the club handicap of GG 2-3 yds, won by J. Davies: the Ladies" Handicap of 00yds, won toy Miss f. Page, after a very close race; and the 220 yds 'Clrfb Handicap, won by J. 'Enwright. The relay race for the Davis Challenge Cup was hotly contested, and finsilly won hy the Grammar Old Boys Football Club's team. During the evening Mr. iA. J. Fernandez, president of the Auckland Swlmmins Centre, presented standard time certificates won by the -Auckland competitors at the championship meeting held in Dunedin. The recipients were Misses P. Page. V. Walrond and P. Hoeft, -and Messrs. K. V. Cunnold ami L. Kronfvld. Winners of the Royal Life 'S-avin-j Society were also presented nnth eertifii-ates and medallions. Mr. C. Welson and Master C. Alulvihill gave an exhibition of diving. Musical selections were rendered by the Senior Cadet Band. The results are as follows: — Xorice Handicap.
