MINE MANAGER ATTACKED.
COAL MINER SENTENCED. (Bj- Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A case of interest to the mining industry was heard by Mr. Darfield, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court when David! McQueen, a miner, was sentenced to a months' imprisonment for having aseaulted David Kane, mine manager, at Home-! bush. The evidence showed that, after instruction* had been given that all coal placed on trucke should be free from dirt or slack, the manager was informed that McQueen's truck contained dirt. McQueen resented the accusation and subsequently assaulted the manager. In the defence accused eaid the manager attacked him with an iron bar. [ The Magistrate said he took a very serious view of the assault, for, apart from the brutality of the act, the mine manager's aufchorit must be upheld-!
