THACKER SITITHVn MATCH. AT CARLAW PARK TO-MORROW. The Thacker Shield match, Ponsonby (Auckland) v. Petone (Wellington) will occupy pride of place at Carlow Park to-morrow afternoon. It is some time now since Ponaonby has met an outside challenger for the Shield, and the defending team is not what it was in past years, while the present challenging side, Petone, has made a first class record this season in League football in Wellington. The challengers will come to the game confident, and it is anticipated that Ponsonby will be hard pressed to hold the trophy. At Wbcnsrarei yesterday. 1n the ladies' hockey match, the vsitlng Auckland lady reps, team were defeated by Whangarei lady re.ps. by 4 goals to 2. The game was played in Meal weather before a large number of spectators. The final score was no indication of the play, which was very even throughout. Whangarei were superior in the first spell, but were on the defensive in the latter stages, only a vigorous defence by the local backs preventing Auckland adding to their score. Soon after t!.c game opened Miss Cam'pbell scored a goal foj. the visitors. A sustained attack by Whangarei forwards enabled Ilannam to find the net twee in succession, and the first spell ended Whangarei 2, Auckland I. The second half saw Auckland pressing hard, but their snots at goal were rendered futile by the sound defence of the opposing backs, till Miss Thomas, by super!) play, nicely timed, scored the second goal for Auckland.
