MOTOR CAR FATALITY.
DEATH OF A GIRL. CORONER FIXDS NEGLIGENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The inquest into the death of Kathleen Archer, aged 12 years, who died from injuries received by being knocked down by a taxi-cab driven by Archibald Lloyd, on August IS, was concluded before Mr. McCarthy, S.M., to-day. The girl had alighted from a tram and was standing waiting for her mother to come round the end of the car, when she was run down. The coroner found that death was due to various injuries; also, that Lloyd's driving was negligent in three particulars. First, he was approaching at a high rate of speed two intersections, and a tramcar, which had stopped to allow passengers to board it and to alight. Secondly, he was not keeping a vigilant look-out: and in the third place, he was under the influence of alcohol. It was this negligent driving which caused the deceased's death. it,, CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. (Hy Telopcrtiiph—'Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, this day. As a sequel to the Lincoln Road fatality on August 30. Archibald Lloyd. taxi-driver, was arrested on a charge' of manslaughter, and appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day. He was remanded for a week, bail being allowed.
