POPULAR JOCKEY'S DEATH.
The death of Air. Roy Hanson, the well-known jockey, took place at the Auckland Hospital this morning. The deceased, who was 23 years of age, served his apprenticeship with Mr. F. Higgs, of Otaki, for whom he rode many winners. He was looked upon as the most promising young cross-country horseman in the Dominion to-day, and during the last few seasons has 'ridden the winners of many hig- races, his two last successes being on Sturdee in the Napier and Hastings' Steeplechases. Tie was on Coroglen in the last Great Northern Steeplechase, and victory was in sight when the horse failed to get over the jump on the top of the hill. Manson had a bright and cheery disposition, a smile and a kind word for everyone, and was most popular amongst his fellow jockeys. The sympathy of all sportsmen will be extended *to his mother, who resides in Auckland, and to his two brothers, Eric and Lou, who also are well-known jockeys.
