POLICEMAN'S LITTLE ERROR.
THOUGHT HE HAD WON A MILLION. •WATCHES FOB HIS FRIENDS. LONDON, September 0. The "Daily Chronicle's' , Milan correspondent states that a Florentine policeman invested in the national lottery. When the numbers were published he ' rejoiced to see his own number as the ' winner of a million lire (£40,000). Hoside himself with excitement he called his friends together to a banquet, serving the best of good wine, and at | the end presenting each with a gold j watch. With the morning came disillusionment. Ho went to the lottery office, and demanded his million, but when \ asked to show his ticket was told that he had drawn .a blank. He expostulated, and then found that he had mistaken a three for a five, and the little difference deprived him of the prize. He is now endeavouring to recover the {Told watches from his friends. — (A. and N.Z.)
