COST OF LIVING.
» DROP IN WHOLESALE PRICES. NOT REFLECTED IN RETAIL. TRADES UNION COMPLAINT. (By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 6. The Trade Union Congrcsa debated the cost of living, Mr. J. 11. Thomas pointing out that there has been a tremendous drop in the wholesale prices, but owing to scandalous profiteering between wholesaler and consumer the latter did not benefit. The Labour Ministry's cost of living figures wore not reliable, though three million workers had their wages controlled by them. The committee reported that 'only 15,.50S subscribed towards the proposed national memorial of freedom and peace in London, for which the Miners' Federation provided £1:2,000. The money is therefore being returned. Mr. I'oulton moved a resolution summing up various items on the agenda regarding unemployment, and calling on the Government to introduce practicable schemes to provide work without delay. Mr. Foul ton pleaded for the removal of the terrible nightmare of unemployment. The discussion was adjourned.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
