Shailer Wcston expressed the opinion ■that the unemployed prolilem was not nearly as bad as some people misrht think. GUARANTEED WAGE nJVARRAXTS. (By Telegrapli. — Press AFsoclation.l WELLTNT.TOX, Tuesday. A deputation consisting of Mr. T. M. Wiltord. M.P.. and J. W. MoEwan, Mayor of Petone, waited on Sir Francis . Bell, ActiiHr-l'rime Minister, to-day, and Tequested that the Government should complete the roadirtf! of the Wilford Settlement in the llutt Valley, in order to provide work for unemployed. It was suggested by Mr. Wilford that the Government should back the wage warrants of the workers on the Guernsey market plan, in order to finance the „ undertaking. He stated-that local shopkeepers were willing to accept warrants. Sir Francis Bell said »c would a~k the aiiniister of Lands if money was available for completing the reading work, but be ihad no power to guarantee wage variants, an idea which did not attract him.
