POWER FOR WAIHI
! A QUESTION OF FINANCE. (By Telegraph. —Own CorresDondent.) WAIHI, this day. At a special meeting of the Waihi Chamber of Commerce a letter was received from the Public Works Department in regard to the introduction of electric power into the town. The Mayor (Mr. Donaldson) said tho question was one of ways and means. Mr. Gauvain (electrical engineer) had informed the Council that to connect with the hospital from the main street line would cost about £200(1, and, including equipment, at the hospital, would mean a total cost of £3000. In the lace of the present financial stringency he saw no possible hope of raising this amount. It was fiually resolved to ask the Thames Valley Hydro-electric Board for details in respect to the borough's responsibility in the matter of rates and charges should Waihi decide to link up with Thames Valley. _________________
