CONFERENCE LEAKAGES.
i GENERAL SMUTS' SPEECHES. 1 VERBATIM IN AMERICA. I LONDON, July 20. At early meetings of the conference of 1 Prime Ministers the representatives were bound to observe secrecy, as in the case I ' of the Cabinet. In fact, Mr. Lloyd George | - always refers to the gathering in the i' ; House of Commons as the Imperial Cabi-1 ' net. Leakages have now become apparent and there were angry exchanges at to- i : day's meeting. The nature of the complaints is not disclosed. Firm straps are being taken by the British authorities ■ to discover the leakage, which at times is embarrassing.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) SATISFACTORY ADJUSTMENT. (Received 10.30 a.m.l LONDON, July 20. The complaints of leakage of conference news have been adjusted satisfactorily. Mr. Hughes bitterly complained that'someone was divulging secrets for consumption abroad, and information was placed before the conference that j General Smuts' speeches were published verbatim in the Hearst papers in the United States.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
