I Mr. Ryan moved an amendment providing that the Government take steps to ensure continuance of the wheat pool, which was defeated by '-ti to 13, the Country party voting with the GoveraI ment, Mr. Gregory subsequently announcj ing, in view of the truce, that they could not do otherwise, but later he would jmove a motion dealing with the wheat question. Sir Joseph Cook read a cable from Mr. Hughes stating that it would be unwise to disclose the business of the conference at this stage, but reiterated that anything agreed to by him would not be final unless ratified by Parliament. ln the Senate, opposition towards the Tariff Board Bill is brewing.
