i (Before Mr. J. W. Poynton. S.M.) RAIDED SHIP'S STORES. Alexander Colman (32), a landsman, who had been found yesterday aboard the s.s. Koromiko in the galley and in possession of a tin of coffee, lib of tea. a bottle of pickles, and two tins of jam, belonging to the ship's stores, admitted the theft of these things. He said he would not have raided the ship's larder but for the fact that he was drunk. In reply to the magistrate he stated that he lived in Victoria Street, and had been i eight months in New Zealand. Accused | was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. A BOARDER'S RBTTTRHr. Mamari at the King's wharf early yesterday evening resulted in the appearance of three of the ship's crew. Albert Charles "Newman (22) was charged with assaulting the first and second officers; Charles Church (32), with obstructing arrest; and Joseph Starbuck (25), with obstructing arrest and assaulting a constable. The evidence was to the effect tnat Newman went on the ship drunk, and made a fuss in the galley, witli the result that the cook called down the second mate. He was saluted by a blow with a dipper from Newman, and when the first officer came on the scene he had to dodge to avoid a pannikin thrown at his head, with the result that the second officer got that also. The police were called, and Starbuck butted in to prevent the arrest of Newman, while Church called on oth«r members of the crew to interfere. The upshot was that the whole three men were arrested. Newman and Starbuck were sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, with a proviso that they be put on the ship when it sailed. 'Church wasfincd 20/. YOUTH-TIL FOLLY. A well-dressed youth admitted the theft of £6 17/ belonging to Wilson nnd Horton. and an overcoat, the property of William Barrett. In a stavnu-rt made to a detective, accused, who bad been employed in the commercial department of Wilson and Horton, said that on several occasions during April and May he failed to hand certain soma to tlie assistant cashier, but gave the customers receipts. Campbell (371 and Join, Sutherland (45), as second offenders fnr drunkenness, were fined 20/ apiece, i„ default 48 hours' imprisonment.
