NAVAL TUG MISSING.
FEARED DISASTER IN THE PACIFI It is feared that the American naval tug Conestoga has met with disaster in jthe Pacific, She was bound from Mare Island to Samoa, and carried a total crew of 30 officers and men. News reached Sydney by the American mail that the United States Navy Department had sent out a fleet of 39 warships—three cruisers and 36 destroyers— to search for the missing tug. The Conestoga left Mare Island for Samoa late in March, and has not been directly reported since, although naval officers have heard that the little vessel was trying to ride out a gale some 500 miles from Honolulu on April 8. The tug was in command of Lieut. E. L. Jones.
