TELEGRAPHIC MATCH
The match by telegraph between the Otago and Auckland Chess Clubs commenced last Saturday evening. For this match the 'Dunedln club has entered a strong team, Including Dunlop. the winner, and Davies runner-up in last year's Dominion championship, and the players selected to do battle for tbe Auckland club will deserve their success if tbpy manage to score a win against their Southern opponents. On 6aturday everything was ready for a start by ti.3o, but owing to the late arrival of after seven before the first moves were cent through. Thanks to the services of ■n able operator, everything went smoothly, end there was no hitch during the evening. •Progress was much more rapid than in the last telegraph match played by the club, and before play ceased at eleven most of the games were well advanced. It is, bowever, unwise at this stage of the games to attempt to forecast the final result. Play ■will be resumed nest Saturday, when. In order to gain as much time as possible, a ■tart will be made at 6 o'clock.
