The member for YVakatipu iMi Horn) has persistently advi.-ed tfc» Minister of External Affair.-; to try the experiment of introducing a few Sf,v Zealand wekas into Samoa, and giving them an opportunity of feeding on the larva of the destructive rhinoceros beetle. Like most enthusiasts, Mr. Horn has braved ridl.-.! , ..- jut ;hi.- ■.;:.!■• ter, and has provided many a laugh in the House with hi-* nuestions to the Minister. However, he has suooeeded in {jotting his way. for a small i/onsianment of the weka i- to be sent to Sanioa and let 100-e among the beetle infested plantation-. A> this bird feeds almost entirely mi f.TTibs, Mr. Horn is that i; will prove to b«* an effective antidote to the berth-. From inquiries he ma<lf" during the recent Parliamentary trip <o Samoa he i- that the weka will encounter no natural enemy in Samoa It-it freds on beetle larva it will certainly make many friends.
