DEFENCE RE-ORGANISATION.

RETIREMENTS ANNOUNCED. <By Telegraph.—Prese Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Owing to the disappearance of one military district under the new defence scheme, Colonel T. W. McDonald, commanding the Otago military district, is <o retire on superannuation. Another officer to retire is Major H. M. W. Richardson, D.5.0., who obtained a commission in the Boer war and served from 1916 to the end of the late war. The other three district commanders—Colonel H. R. Potter (Auckland), ColoneK Melville (Wellington) and Colonel Young (Canrrbury)—will command the northern, central, and southern districts respectively. Many minor changes in staffing are involved in the reorganisation, and will be announced shortly.
