A DIGGER "DEMONSTRATION."

AUSSTES COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. (Received 11 a.m.l LONDON, January 30Tne three men. P. S. Courtney, J. R. Templeman (ex-Australian '•diggers"), and F. E. Wilson, charged with attempting to steal a motor car belinging to Australia House, were committed for trial at the Bow Street Police Court. The men had been remanded in order that they might call evidence in support of their story that no theft was intended, the taking of the car being merely a demonstration to call attention to the dong delay in paying the hard-up "diggers" their gratuities. Tne only witness forthcoming was L. B. Taylor, an ex-Westralian "digger," who said he had heard Courtney say that he would Australia House by taking something. The magistrate refused to allow Courtney bail owing to the fact that he had been previously bound over on a charge of being concerned in a conspiracy to steal Australian Red Cross material.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
