WOMEN'S WORLD.

GOVERNMENT HOUSE BALL! A ball was given last evening at Gov- I eminent House by their Excellencies, the Governor-General and Viscountess Jellicoe, which was attended by about 400 guests, amongst whom were the officers I of H.M.s. Chatham. The grounds were j profusely lighted by a row of many- 1 coloured lights which encircled the large I lawn, while refreshments were served I upon the terrace Seats were scattered I about the lawn and the lovely evening j added to the magic of the scene. Duiganl and members of the Northern Club on Wednesday in honour of their Excellencies the Governor-General and Viscounte-s Jellicoe. Amongst the guests prevent were the officers of H.M.s. Chatham, the Prime Minister, and the Hon. Dr. M. Pomare. The club had been handsomely decorated for the occasion. A right-of-way had been built across the pavement, which was lined with nikau palms and lit with fairy lights, while the ballrooms were festooned with streamers of lycopodium and pale pink roses. The billiard room unstairs was used as one of the supper rooms, and was charming; in a scheme of rich gallardias and as- ! paragus fern, with pale pink shaded j lights.
