THE WATER SUPPLY.

WORKERS' CAMP SHIFTED. The City -Council met in committee yesterday to consider matters in connection with tin* water su-ijily. In the absence of the Mayor tlie chairman of the Public Services Committee Mr. VV. .1. Holdsworth I presided, and subsequently furnished the following statement for publication: — "The Council in committee met to-day to consider the water supply. Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, was present. He reported that he visited the Nihotupu works on Wednesday, and orally examined all the workmen, some of whom admitted having had typhoid fever in years past. Dr. Hughes suggested, in order to be absolutely certain that none of the workmen were typhoidcarriers, his department was willing; to make the necessary tests from time to time. He further stated that after this course had been adopted, with the pre*> caution of excluding all workmen from living on the watershed, there would be no further necessity for sterilising the water by boiling." In conversation Mr. Holdsworth said that the 40 to 50 men employed on the large dam did not live on the watershed, their camp being below. At Nihotupu auxiliary dam 30 men had been camped within the watershed. That camp would Ibe at once shifted over the brow of the j hill, and thus remove any danger of the | water supply heing again contaminated. The latest analysis from Waitakere j showed the water to be of good quality. 1
