FOUL BROOD IN APIARY. AN OTAHCHr CASE. A < hargp of having failed to rid his apiary of foul br"<>d was denied by H. B. Stringer, of Otabuhu. Evidence was given by the ("ovemment apiary inspector (A. Goodingi that he had made repeated visits to Stringer's apiary, and his instructions in regard to getting rid of foul brood then existing among some of tlie hives had not been carried out properly.

The defendant admitted that a certain amount of foul brood existed, but said he had done all he could to get rid of it. There had been a shortage of honey, and his clean l>ee3 began robbing the infected hive*, with the result that the disease carried. Originally he had 43 hives, but the foiil brood and the robbing had reduced the number to 10. He complained that infected honey tins were left lying about, carrying the germs.

The magistrate said beekeeper", like orchardists, had to keep down disease. It was a serious matter to the industry. As a warning to others the defendant would be fined £3, with cost-.
