(T.eceived 10.30 a.m.l LOXDOX, January 27. the Labour conference considered the matter of unemployment, and unanimously adopted the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee of the Trades Unions' Congress, namely, that those for whom no work is available trom the employment exchanges or trades unions should be entitled to maintenance, including the benefits of the Unemployment Insurance Act, at the rate of 40/ per week for each householder, and 25/ for each single man or woman, with additional allowances for each dependent. The conference has adjourned until the ; 23rd of February to enable the execufives of the various unions to obtain the opinions of their members as to the steps that should be taken to carry out the recommendations. The. Parliamentary committee was | asked to take steps unless Cabinet brought the matter up in the House of I Commons. Mr. J. H. Thomas: Some will probably I interpret this to mean that the February Conference will have a mandate for direct action. (Hear, hear.* Mr. Thomas: That is not the case: the joint committee has neither affirmed nor rejected direct action. The conference at its adjourned sitting must decide that. lA. and X.Z. Cable! v
