» Dr. G. Lyon, of Ashburton, leaves for England by the Arawa next week. Sir Raymond Dennison and Sir Elliott Johnstone arrived from Sydney by the Tofua yesterday. Dr. A. W. Averfll, Anglican Bishop of Auckland, has returned from a visit to the northern part of the diocese. Mr. J. A. Nash, MP., is retiring from Palmerston mayoralty after 13 consecutive years of office. Hon Ratu J. A. Rabici, 0.8. E., native member of the Fiji Legislature, is on a visit to Wellington for a few days. Captain C. R. Willcocks has left .Ai.i-kland 10 take up bis new duties as har-oin-mastcr at Apia, Samoa. Sergeant-Major P. Thomson, late of the physical training staff nt Trentham military camp, has been appointed physical Lr-stmetor at Wellington College. Mr. M. C. Barnett, who has been acting-Assistant Public Trustee since the retirement of Mr. Rxmaldson, has been confirmed in that appointment. Mr. J. B. Clarkson. formerly of Christchurch and now of Sydney, arrived by the Tofua yesterday, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Harle Giles (Conciliation Commissioner) has returned from Xew Plymouth after dealing with the disputes in the butchering and dairying industries. Hon. Sir neaton Rhodes (Minister of Defence), who is in Christchurch, expects to visit the Lake Coleridge electrical power scheme on Saturday. Mr. J. H. C. Bond, manager of the Auckland office of the Union Steamship Company, Ltd., is at present on a visit to Dunedin. Mr. T. H. Chapman, of Ambury's, Ltd., was too ill to attend as an assessor at the •Conciliat on Council to-day in the dairymen's dispute. Victoria College Council has passed a resolution congratulating Mr. P. W. Burbridge, M.Sc, on his appointment as Professor of *" Physics at Auckland University College. Mr. O. E. Burton, 8.A., recently appointed Boys' Work Director to the V.M.C.A., Wellington, has had a distinguished war record with the Auckland Infantry Regiment. He is writing the official history of the Auckland Regiment. Dr. E. Morris Miller, M.A., D.Litt., , Professor of Psychology, Tasmania University, who arrived in Auckland by the Tofua, is on his way to the United States to inquire into the. working of the psychological clinics of the leading American universities. Mr. P. E. Cheat *.va_ accorded a vote of thanks at the annual meeting of the Anckland Railways League yesterday for his very energetic unpaid services in the cause of that organisation, for hie trip to Wellington to interview Ministers on railway matters, and for the improved financial position, which the treasurer stated was entirely owing to Mr. Cheat's energy-
