EXPORT DIFFICULTIES.

AUSTRALIAN EXCHANGE. COMMONWEALTH TO DECIDE. LONDON. December 22. In the House of Commons, Mr. Hood (C.L*.), referring to the hindrance of exports to Australia on account of the inability of Australian merchants to send remittances, asked whether this was due to the Government purchases of wool, etc., from Australia.

Mr. J. Austen Chamberlain (Chancellor of the Exchequer) replied that be was aware that the Australian exchange difficulties wore forcing the exchange banks to charge a considerable premium for money, owing to the unfavourable balance of Australian trade, partly due to the cessation of the large advance payments made during the last few years for wool and other products. He had discussed remediable methods with the Commonwealth Government, which must decide what action is to he taken.
