OHUTU MILL STRIKE.
A SETTLEMEKT PROBABLE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAI'HAPE. this day. In accordance with the decision arrived at at a previous meeting, the employees of the Egmontftox Company's mill at Ohutu ccase<l work on Fridayi evening, as no reply which could bo re-; garded as satisfactory had been received from the company up till that time. A meeting was held on evening to, consider the reply received from thei managing director of the company to the' effect that the company now understood' the position, and that the managing l director would meet the njen on Wednes-j day. j
The executive of the union strongly, advised tb« men to remain at work until the matter was definitely settled, but the men considered that the negotiations with the company had been unduly protracted, and that the closing down of the works would be entirely the fault of the company, as the men had waited long enough for a deifinite reply to their request, which was that the King Country Sawmill Workers' Union, which ha* its headquarters at Ohutu, should be recognised by the company. The position now is that the works have been closed "down since Friday, but it is probaible that the matter in dispute may be satisfactorily settled on' Thursday, when the managing director of tho company will endeavour to meet the men.
