HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME.
POWER BOARD FAVOURED. ("Bj- Telegrapb.—Own Correspondem.) TAUMARUJf Ul, -Monday. At a representative meeting of delegates from surrounding local bodies held this evening under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce it was resolved to approve the setting up of a power board for the Taumarunui district, and the appointment of a representative committee to go iDto details of finance and probable consumption. Mr. G. A. Stanton was voted to the chair. Mr. A. S. Laird moved, and Mr. W. Maud i chairman Manunui Town Board) seconded the motion approving the establishment of a hydro-electric power board, and speeches of support were delivered by Messrs. T. Crocker (chairman Kaitieke County Council), J. E. Watkins I chairman, Kakahi Ratepayers' Association), A. H. Brown, and others The Mayor, Mr. G. S. Steadman, Mr. J. E. Ward, and the Town Clerk (Mr. A. Leeae) advocated the borough scheme costing £44,000, reported on and also recommended by the borough consulting engineers, Messrs. Hay and Vickerman. Finally a committee consisting of one from each of the following local bodies was set ud: Taumarunui Borough Council. Manunui Town Board, the Ohura and the Kaitieke County Councils, and the West Taupo Settlers' Association.
