MOUNT ROSKILL'S PROGRESS.
A RAPIDLY-GROWING SUBURB. The Mt. Roskill Road District has progressed very rapidly of late, and its popularity is steadily growing. Figures compiled by the local authority reveal that in the past fiv*j&y_rs the ratable value of tlie district has jumped from £777,791 to £820,473, an increase of £42,602, while during that period St. Mary's Convent and the Hills-boro' cemetery ahd declared unratable. They were valued at £19,950, so that but for these reductions the increase would have been £62,632. The present year shows an increase over the past of £16.735.
The total general rate struck for 1920-21, not including special or separate rates, was £3580 15/9: five years asro it was £2028 17/3, an increase of £1821 18/6. Of this amount £1030 has been collected, leaving £2820 outstanding. Since the beginning of the present financial year, April 1, 48 builders' permits have been issued, representing an approximate value of £36,000. In the same period 33 new water services have been laid, raising the number of consumers to 409, as oomnared with 288 in 1915, an increase of 121. The consumption charge for the nine months ended September 30 was £769, while for tbe •same period in 1915 it was £556, an increase of £212.
