FRUIT TRADE DISPUTE.
TROUBLE OVER CASES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Corerspondent.)
CHRISTCHURCH, this day. An unexpected deadlock has ccc-urred in the wholesale fruit market at Christ-; church. On Friday the buyers refused to I operate in consequence of a demand by\ growers for an additional sixpence for: each case. The auctioneer did no more; than a limited amount of business. ' City consumers will not be affected' because supplies of loose fruit are com ng in freely. "The whole trouble is due to a claim by growers for sixpence on each case," said the vice-president of the Fruit Retailers' Association. "No such charge has ever been made before in New Zealand, and we are not going to pay it now, when fruit is at the highest level. We offered to sell growers all good cases at 2/, 4, and 6/ a dozen, according to size and quality. They would not accept, so we are buying nothing 'but loose fruit. Growers aer evidently looking fcr a Sgfht, and we are ready for them, and telfgraras received yesterday stated that s'-mil-r' trouble has also arisen in Dunedin and Invercargill.
