A Polish communique states:—We captured Lida, 60 miles north-east of Grodno, and Pinsk, on the Pripet, 200 miles east of Warsaw, taking 4000 prisoners, including a divisional chief of staff and 200 Soviet officials. Five hundred railway wagons, 250 machine-guns, and an enormous amount of war material were also taken. The enemy is retreating in panic.—(A. aud N.Z. Cable.) THE LITHUANIAN TANGLE. > IXAGUE TO UNRAVEL IT. - LONDON, September 30. A commission under the auspices of the League of Nations is going to Suwalki in an effort to settle the PolishLithuanian conflict. Colonel Chardignay, of France, has been appointed president. Major Keenan represents Britain and Captain Yaraanaki Japan. The Italian and Spanish representatives have not yet been appointed. The first duty of the commission will be to take necessary steps for the prevention of further hostilities. It will be empowered to recommend any military dispositions by the two Governments for tho avoidance of a collision. As _oon as the Lithuanians have obtained guarantees from the Bolsheviks, and all "Red" troops hare been evacuated from Lithuanian territory, it will be the commission's duty to enforce neutrality in the disputed area. This is the first occasion the League of Nations has actively intervened in a dispute between two nations. XReuter.) r CHAOTIC TRANSPORT. {Received 11.30 n.m.) WASHINGTON, September 30.
