BOROUGH COUNCIL RESIGNS.
SUSPENDED COUNCILLOR RE-ELECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CARTERTON, this day. The deputy-mayor (Mr. J. W. Smith) and seven councillors of Featherston Borough Council resigned in a body yesterday evening aa the result of a byelection whereby a member of the council who had been suspended for'alleged insulting conduct, and who had resigned without withdrawing the remarks objected to, was returned again. The sitting council considered euch action on the part of the electors a vote of no-confi-dence in them. They therefore resigned and will decline to seek re-election. Difficulty is anticipated in obtaining a new council.
