POST OFFICE SITE.

DISCUSSION AT NORTHOOTE. In connection with the Northcote tßorough Council's overtures for the erection - of a Government building for post oifice purposes, Mr. A. Harris, M.P., j wrote: "A new and central site has been purchased by the Post and Telegraph Department, near the council chambers. The land lias been acquired from Mrs. Exley with a view to erecting a new post office building thereon." This letter was read at a m'eetinp ot | t,hc borough council last evening, when on th| motion of Cr. Tonarj seconded by O. Crowley, it waa restuvoj to thank Mr. Harris for his efforts, and to ex- | press the hope that the promised new ' building would soon be ere-.ted j Cr. Broady considered the suction and location unauita'ble for postal purposes, and that the Department should have acceded to the council's request to purO|hase land alongside the council chambers, though personally he believed the post office should be located nearer the hotel. The mayor said the objections raieed regarding the residents in tho northern end of the borough having to pay mileage on delivery of tclegTama would not j •be.Temoved by the provision of a building on the site acquired. Crs. Deux'berry and Crowley pointed out that the site was "near" the council I chambers, and in tho vicinity. I The mayor replied that it might be • argtied with almost equal force that t.Tie new site was also near that already owned by the Department.
