AGAINST PAYING STAKES. SYDNEY, August 30. In consequence of the touching of the boats in the race for the sculling championship of the world on Saturday, the solicitor of Alfred Felton the defeated Australian, has formally protested to the stakeholder against the stakes being handed to Ernest Barry, the winner. Felton has challenged Barry to row him again any day this week for the stake money, which Felton considers is legally his. Barry expresses himself as disappointed and disgusted at the way Felton had taken his defeat, and said: "When Felton beat mc on the Thames I said to him, 'Good luck, Alf, old pal.' " Paddon has accepted a challenge from R. Arnst. Details of the match are being arranged.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) RESULT NOT AFFECTED. (Received 0 a.m.) LONDON, August 30. Barry telegraphed to the "Daily Mall" stating that the foul occurred because Felton was too tired to get out of the way. He (Barry) was too eager, but the foul did not affect the race. The tide -was heavy here, and required a strong man to pvercome it.—(United Service.)
