MESOPOTAMIAN REVOLT.
SPREAD OF THE TROUBLE. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 29. A War Office Mesopotamia communique states that the trouble has spread to the Muntefik area. The situation in Shatt-el-Hai is critical. The political officer at Shathreh was withdrawn by aeroplane to Nasiric. British troops encountered a strong hostile force south-east of llillah, south of Bagdad, and drove them across the Euphrates. Forty tribal banners were counted. Opposition north-east of Bagdad is still strong, but the besieged garrison at Garahoan, 30 miles south of Rifri, has been relieved. The communique confirms that the Bolsheviks north-west of Persia forced the Cossacks to abandon Resht, the latter losing heavily.— (Reuter.)
