OBITUARY.
-AIR. D. J. ROUSE. Mr. Donald J. Rouse, a well-known settler of Sherry River, died suddenly at Nelson yesterday. He was a prominent member of the Farmers' Union, a meniber of the Harbour Board, and 4 director of the Nelson Freezing Company, He leaves a wife and family. MR. R. D. EYRE. The funeral of the late Mr. Robert Dudley Eyre took place at midday, the interment being at the cemetery, O'Neil's Point. The Rev. W. Monckton officiated. Mr. Eyre arrived in Auckland in the ship Empress in May, 1885, and was the first Government surveyor on the Thames goldfields, where his horse, Tim Whiffler, won the first steeplechase run at Thames in 18CS. He was subsequently adjutant engineer in the corps that constructed the railway from Mercer to Hamilton Mr. Eyre joined the Provincial Government in 1875 as a surveyor in the Taranaki district, and was engaged in running the confiscation boundary line in that district.
