ATTEMPT TO SWIM CHANNEL.
J AMERICAN GIVES UP. THREE MILES FROM SHORE. ("received 10..'!0 a.m.) LONDON, August 27. Henry Sullivan, an American swimmer, left Dover last night in an attempt 'to swim the Channel. Sullivan abandoned the swim three miles from Cape Grisnez, after having been 10* hours in the water. He covered 35 miles, his chief food being beefsteak cooked on an accompanying trawler. He made a plucky struggle during the last five hours, but was unable to make any progress, and gave up the attempt. The water was choppy.— (A. and N7Z. Cable.)
