HOCKEY.
Canterbury, tire champion team of the South Island, visit Auckland in quest of the Shield next Saturday. The eleven contains half-a-dozen players who figured in the contest with Auckland last season, when the latter proved victorious by two goals to one. Canterbury intend making a big bid for the supremacy of the Dominion.
Wellington follow Canterbury a fortnight later, providing, of course, the South Islanders do not take possession of the trophy, and Auckland has acceded to Wellington's wish in appointing Messrs. L. C. Kent and L. 11. Norton, two local refereees. for the match.
The Auckland lady representatives, under the management of Mr. L. C. Kent, chairman of the Auckland Hockey Executive, depart by tho s.s. Arahura for Gisborne on Tuesday to take part in The Dominion tournament which is to be held thpre. The tournament promises to be a great, success: no less than nine teams will compete for championship honours.
There is ..till another set of matches to play to complete the senior competition. Mount Eden possess such a stron" lead that their title to championship honours cannot be disputed. University nnd St. Luke's nre on level terms for second place, and are anxious to try conclusions once moi-e.
