SPORTING GOSSIP.

(By ACTAEON.)

FOOTBALL. PRIMARY SCHOOL NOTES. The only competition yet undecided is the I? grade, in which Newton East have to meet Mt. Albert. The former team has suffered one defeat, while the hitter's record has so far been an unbroken series of wins. The final game should be one well worth watching, though it will not eventuate until after the holidays.

The st ruggle between Newton East nnilllt. I'xicn on Saturday last was both even and exciting. The city school lads deserved their victory, which was largely due to their excellent tackling and to the dash of their forwards. Wilson and Scagcr led them throughout the game, while Lockie, at full-back, waa always reliable in defence. Mt. Eden's tackling was very disappointing indeed, and the side (I'd not look like the same one that put up such a fine fight against Mt. Albert earlier in the week. Gillespie's try from a splendid dribble was, however, one of the features of the day.

Bayfield were beaten by Mt. Albert by 14 to nil, but were very far from outclassed, and fully extended the victors.

Before these notes arc read, two primary school rep. teams will m have battled against Worthy opponents. On Wednesday these two fifteens met in a trial game at Victoria Park, when, as was to be .expected, the A's, now in Whangarei, completely outclassed the B 'reps., who, to-day, arc to meet the suburban fifteen at Eden Park. The com-' bination of the winning side was as good as possibly could be desired, and both backs and forwards will be found worthy exponents of football as it should be played.

The B s, lighter, of course, also lacked combination, the five-eighths not showing up to advantage. The forwards, however, are a pack of grafters. Darby will captaiiiMhe touring team, while O'Neill will be the general of the side at Eden Park.
