NORTHERN' STEAMERS.
COOTEMPIATED CHANGES.
The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce has been informed by the manager of the Steamship C/Ompany .hat -the Rarawaiwili he taken off the AucklandWhangAei service on September ... S|he -willi be overhauled and reinstated in the 2\ew Plymouth-Onehunga service.
There is a possibility that 3iltimately the Rarawa will be taken off the Xew Plymouth-Onehunga service pern_anently and placed in the Au-ckland-Tauranga service. At present there is insufficient depth in Tauranga Harbour to perunit of this, but improvements about to flje/imdertaken include deepening of the channel to the Tauranga -wharf. If this work is successful the Rarawa will take ■up the Ngapuhi's running and the Ngapuhi will be put on the New PlymouthOnehunga run. In this event the NgapuhJTvill make tri-weekly trips instead of the present bi-weekly trips. The company states that the Rarawa is a much more expensive vessel to run than the Xgapuhi, and tihat it has' to utilise the larger vessel where most traffic and cargo is offering.
